More than 30 firefighters were called to Box Hill North at around 5:20pm on Saturday evening, after a fire started in a bedroom.
Initial crews arrived to the Middleborough Road house within five and a half minutes following several calls to Triple Zero (000).
Wearing breathing apparatus for protection from the smoke, they quickly set up hose lines and attacked the fire in a bid to get it under control.
Their efforts ensured the fire was contained to several bedrooms at the front of the 10 x 15m brick property; however the remainder of the home has sustained smoke damage.
The fire was deemed under control within 30 minutes however crews are expected to remain on scene for some time until they are confident the fire has been completely extinguished.
Thankfully all occupants were accounted for. One person was treated by Ambulance Victoria paramedics as a precaution.
At this stage it’s not clear what caused the blaze to start but an MFB investigation is underway.
At the height of the fire there were seven firefighting appliances in attendance including a rescue and an aerial unit, in addition to two other support units.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are also on scene.
