Approximately 40 firefighters have responded to Patterson Road in Bentleigh, following a Triple Zero (000) call reporting petrol leaking from a bowser at a disused service station.

MFB HAZMAT specialists and firefighters arrived on scene within 7 minutes and found fuel running into a gutter and impacting a neighbouring property.

Firefighters forced entry into the service station and are working to locate the source of the leak.

Crews have managed to slow the leak, but are expected to remain on scene for some time until the area is made safe.

The incident was declared under control within 45 minutes of MFB’s arrival.

At the height of the incident there were four MFB appliances, one HAZMAT pod, and control and command units on scene.
